What Does Zipping Folders Mean

We all have zips in one or two materials some where, it may be in your trouser, your bag your shoe etc, the work of this Zip is to hold the material in one place, it is also used to compress bulky stuffs inside one sack etc

Now, applying Zipping to the computer world is almost the same thing, just that here you don’t handle the zip with your physical hands(At least not literally)Now the following ways are how to zip files with

Zipping Files On Your PC (Windows)

On this section, I’ll be showing you how to zip files on your pc, it will be divided into two sections.

  • Zipping files on your windows
  • Zipping files on your Mac OS

Zipping Files on your windows involve the following steps.

Step 1:Locate the file or folder that you want to zip.

Step 2: Press and hold (or right-click) the file or folder, select (or point to) Send to, and then select Compressed (zipped) folder.Zipping files on windows
A new zipped folder with the same name is created in the same location. To rename it, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Rename, and then type the new name.Renaming a zipped file

Zipping Files On Your PC (Mac OS)

You can also zip files with/on your Mac OS following this options

Step 1: Locate the items to zip in the Mac Finder (file system)

Step 2: Right-click on a file, folder, or files you want to zip

Step 3: Select “Compress Items”

Step 4: Find the newly created .zip archive in the same directory

Note:If a single file is being zipped, the zip archive will maintain the standard file name but append the .zip extension.
If more than one file is being zipped, the archive will be named “Archive.zip”, and if multiple archives are created, they will be named successively “Archive 2.zip” and so on.

Note: This method involves you UPLOADING files online these will definitely consume your bandwidth(data) so its advisable that you use this method for smaller files only, also this method can be used on both your PC and on your Mobile device.

Zipping Files On Your Mobile(Android)

Now, I get to teach how to zip files on your mobile phone, I tested this method with my android phone, the apps I am using for this might work on your IOS, lets dive in.

Step 1: Use your play store to locate and download any of this apps

  • ES File explorer: Very broad, can replace your default File Manager
  • RAR: It’s main purpose is for zipping and unzipping

How To zip files on RAR Android app

Step 1: Open the RAR app on your phone.

Step 2: Select the folder where your file is located.

Step 3: Select the files that you want to archive and tap on the “Archive” icon (icon with a + sign) on the top of the screen.

Step 4: In the succeeding window, choose the name, size, location for your Archive folder.

Step 5: After the Archiving process is done; the archive file will be saved in the same folder from where the files were chosen for archiving.
