Chin Chin is usually dry and deep-fried that traces its roots to Nigeria. Nigerians serve this delicacy in schools during breaks,

at events, during CHRISTMAS, weddings, birthday parties, etc etc. It’s no news that Nigeria is a flexing country.

Ingredients Used To Make Chin Chin

Work with your discretion, the ingredients listed here will help you have a medium size delicious chin chin.

  • All Purpose Plain Flour: 8 – 9cups(1kg)
  • Peak Milk: 1 tin
  • Margarine: 250g
  • Granulated Sugar: ½ cup
  • Ground Nutmeg: 2 teaspoon
  • Eggs: 2 (optional thou unless you want your chin chin to be softer)
  • Water(optional)
  • Kitchen Oil: Vegetable Oil enough for frying

Who doesn’t love creamy chin chin? Well, peak milk will handle that aspect.

Nutmeg shouldn’t be left out no matter what.

It’s strongly advised that you use Plain Flour and avoid other types of flour(Self-raising and gluten-free flour)

Odorless and tasteless vegetable oil is what you need, please.

Steps To Make Chin Chin

In A Bowl

Step 1:
Sift your flour into a large bowl.

Step 2:
Add your ground nutmeg and granulated sugar in the bowl and start mixing.

Step 3:
The margarine comes in, add it in small scoops and rub with the contents in the bowl till you feel crumbs.

Step 4:(Eggs)
If you are working with eggs, break and add and mix with the bowl’s contents.

Step 5:
Using a Spatula add and mix the peak milk, using your hand, knead the content of the bowl till a dough is formed.

Often than not, you’ll have that impulse to add more liquid cause of the dryness, overcome that thou.

Keep mixing still, if after a while of mixing it refuses to take a dough shape, add a very tiny quantity of water drops by drops till you have a dough.

Step 6:
When satisfied with the dough, cover the bowl and allow for 15-20 minutes. The dough should get softer during this recess.

If you make it too flat, your chin chin might be as flat as plantain chips, so make the width moderate.

Use your knife, cut off the top and down the edge and add to the next dough you will work on, now draw lines across the dough like you are making a net 🥅. i.e small small squares.

Avoid using flour to dust the chin chin, it will cause foam when you are frying, if you mixed it well, they might be no need for that.

In your deep pot

Step 8:
Pour a great amount of vegetable oil in the pot, make sure you have a great amount of heat. Chin chin loves heat.

Step 9:
Confirm the oil heat by adding one of the ready chin chin, that piece should sink then come up immediately while sizzling.

If you are sure of the heat, using two hands, start pouring in your chin chin, don’t overcrowd your pot.

Step 10:
Using a metallic spoon, start stirring, keep shaking the spoon till the chin chin are on their own and not joined together.

Step 11:
When they are apart, start stirring periodically till the chin chin turns brown to your liking. When the chin chin is out of the fire, it will go darker a little take note.

Step 12:
Using a frying spoon, scoop the fried chin chin into a sieve lined with a paper towel and keep frying the remaining chin chin following the steps above.

Step 13:
When you are completely done, spread the chin chin on a cold hard surface e.g an iron tray, and allow it to cool down.

When completely cool, place it in an airtight container then keep it in a cool place, your fridge will do.
